Domande Cina
Guys, I have quite a dumb question. I was scrolling through jobs in Glassdoor and found that minimal salary offered for work in China in my field is 15 000 ¥.
How much is that really, based on your experience? Is it enough to rent a flat somewhere in Guangzhou? Buy nice clothes, go to cinema? Or is it just baseline minimum for survival?

This question is optional, but how costly is it in general to live in big Chinese cities like Guangzhou, Shanghai, Beijing, Shenzhen?

If this is monthly salary, it's quite decent (though you'll still be far from "rich"), about 50% higher than the average salary of Guangzhou, and I guess (because I'm not from Guangzhou) that it will be enough to rent a flat, buy nice clothes, go to cinema, etc.

There are about 600 millions of Chinese people under 5000CNY salary, so,If you're high-tech talent,15 000 ¥ per month reasonable.

Renting will cost around 2 000 ~ 4 000. If you are eager to buy a flat then it will be very costly.

Clothes and cinema cost are not things to worry about in China. You should worry about housing cost and transportation. The salary is not bad for a Chinese in Guangzhou, but if you are a typical westerner who cares about privacy and personal space, this may not be a high salary. Many well-to-do urban Chinese still live in apartment buildings. Sometimes you can hear your neighbors arguing at 3am, and your neighbors can also hear when you take showers, have sex... if you live in apartment buildings. So think about that. Cars are also expensive to maintain, traffic is crazy and subways can get really crowded. If you don't speak Chinese be prepared to donate some of your income to scammers, both professional and amateur.... Just take a taxi and you will see what I mean 😂

I’m living in Suzhou where the living conditions are similar as Guangzhou. I am seriously tell you that if you need afford rent of living, transportation, nice food in restaurants, movies, daily expenses, ¥15,000 per month can surely make it happen but you need budget each of the expenses and entertainment very carefully otherwise you may probably use up all of your salary before next payday.
