How to start a conversation with a korean person? I use language exchange apps and most korean people don’t like it when someone starts the conversation with “hi how are you?” Or ask questions about them, but I don’t get what people talk about, not just Koreans but most people, i try to ask questions like “ what do you like to do in your free time?” Or “what did you do today?” But the conversation just ends..

I think there is no correct answer to this kind of question. No one knows the exact reason why some people stop talking after having a short conversation. Although we are "Koreans" who share the same culture, every Korean has a different character, personal preferences and VERY different foreign language ability.

It isn't wrong at all to start a conversation with saying hi, how're you. Most people regardless of nationality would start a conversation like this when they chat in English. 
When I used other language exchange app, I also thought the same thing. It's kind of hard to continue conversations unless one of the talkers are talkative and patient, or they continuously find some entertaining/interesting topics. I myself don't know what to answer your question.

Many Koreans are friendly to foreigners. When Koreans come across foreigners who need help such as asking for direction, most Koreans are willing to help even if they aren't that good at English. But I'm not so sure if many Koreans are interested in continuing conversations with foreigners since, like I said above, everyone has a different character, interest and very different foreign language ability. If they're interested in it, they'll be willing to continue the conversation. If not, or they're busy, they'll just answer questions and go.

A. Probably yes. Many Koreans would be interested in hearing your experience of visiting Korea whether it's good or not. But as the other person said, it can be very depend on the person. I know it's hard to find someone who shares the same interest and can be a long-time friend. Many people easily come and go on the internet.

Actually unlike Americans Koreans don’t talk to much with strangers. Not even talk to with who live the next door literally. So they just don’t know how to start conversation with stanger. But it’s just not usual to them not because hate you or hate to conversation. So take some times and make them a friend first. And then they will start open their heart.

@sheiiwoo The internet(include apps) is quite different to real life though. Even me as an introvert person can talk to other people well in the internet, but in real life it is hard for me to conversation with others. And I think this is not just for me.
