Do you find socially awkard to speak about videogames in public in japan?

I love videogames, But while I am out of home, I speak close to nothing about them because I feel like people might look at me as a geek or they would lose interest inmediatly

I heard that it is common in japan and almost everyone does it , is it true?

Depends on people.
Some people hide they are geek (otaku in Japan)some people don't do that.
I think people are not disliked just they are geek.
Actually I know some people who are geek they are very nice and social.
The reason why geek are disliked, some geek are insensitive, don't read between the lines.
