Context is ofcourse important, but if de/het precedes enige it means only.
Without de/het it means some.
"Ik heb mijn man enige tijd geleden ontmoet. Hij is de enige van wie ik houd."
(I met my husband some time ago. He is only one I love.)

That is a difficult question, but I've looked it up and I'll try to explain it.
"Enig" and "enkel" can have the same meaning where "enig" is a bit more formal.
"Enkel" = some/single
"Enig"= unique, cute/charming/ little/ (in) any other
"Enige tijd geleden heb ik hem ontmoet." (Some time ago, I've met him.)
"Enkelen van hen vertrekken morgen al." (Some of them already leave tomorrow.)
In this case "Enig/Enkel" means some.
However "enig" can also mean "only".
"Aarbei is de enige vrucht die ik lekker vind." (Strawberry is the only fruit I like.)
Or "enig" as in charming:
"Zij is een enige vrouw." (She is a lovely/charming woman.)
(which to me sounds a bit old-fashioned)

Also as for the "charming" meaning, it reminds me of an archaic usage of the word "singular" in English: "She is a singular woman."
