Why is 배고프다 conjugated 배고파요, instead of 배고포요?
I thought that words that end with 으다, if there is no consonant at the end of the word, take on the vowel in front of the 으 in the stem.

배고프다 is short of 배가 "고프다"
that means i'm hungry
in the"고프다", "ㅡ"sound is apocope, and change from "ㅡ" sound to "ㅏ"sound. it was influenced by vowel harmony such as "ㅗ" or "ㅏ"
