I've heard that "American Chinese food" is different than actual Chinese food, in what ways is it different? and what is it like?

American Chinese food is usually very oily with sweet chilli sauce etc. most real Chinese dishes are steamed, stir fried but rarely deep fried

Traditional Chinese food never includes broccoli. As long as you find it in a Chinese dish, you can tell it's Americanized Chinese food.

Although the "fortune cookie (簽語餅)" concept was created by ethnic Han Chinese people from Guangdong Province (廣東四邑人), its actual birthplace of origin is from the US (California)–not from China!

The American Chinese food comes from area of southeast of China. It's sweet. But there are variety of cultures and food styles in the country, like Chuan food, Lu food, Xiang food, Yue food, etc. That's why American Chinese food is different than actual Chinese food.

@KarlShen You are referring to the Vancouver that's located in British Columbia, Canada (and not to the Vancouver of Washington State, United States), am I right? I've heard that the population of Hong-Kong-origin Chinese living within the province of BC is quite huge there.
