Domande Inglese (Regno Unito)
I am faced with a challenging English grammar question.
He must have missed the train; he ( ) have arrived by now.
(1) ought to have (2) can (3) will (4)need
The correct answer is (1).
But when I express an surmising meaning of "Probably he has arrived by now", I want to say, "he can have arrived by now" or "he will have arrived by now".
And when I express a meaning of "It is necessary that he should be here by now", I want to say, "he need have arrived by now" or "he will have arrived by now".
Why are the three sentences above incorrect?
