In a audio tape I listen to, one of the sentences is "je parle un peu le français." When I translate "I speak a little French" through google translate, it drops the 'le' and becomes "je parle un peu français." Are both sentences acceptable? Or google translate is wrong.

Another thing, when Google translates "I know a little French," it becomes "je connais un peu de français." Does the verb connaître change something that made 'de' necessary?
