Here are some common stereotypes of Japanese people:
- They are polite and respectful
- They tend to be clean and tidy and prefer a minimalistic style of design
- They are co-operative and altruistic (focussing on doing what's best for the group as a whole rather than acting selfishly)
- They are technologically advanced (electronic devices, toilets, transportation, etc.)
- They are smart, disciplined, and work/study very hard
- They are often slim, petite, and generally healthy
- They tend to be well organized and punctual (on time)
- They are often quiet, shy, and too formal
- They are often very serious, strict, and traditional/conservative
- They are a little weird and crazy (stereotype from Japanese TV commercial advertisements and gameshows)
- They are a little xenophobic (not very comfortable with or accepting of foreigners from other countries)

We are not sure if you want an answer to this question or if you want to know the best way to say it.
You can say it like this:
What is your impression of the Japanese?
To answer the question, in the US, people generally think the Japanese are intelligent and hard-working. They also think Japan is a fascinating and beautiful country, and many would like to visit there someday.
Of course everyone is different.

Some people do not know much about Japan -- only cars and manga and anime. Other people like Japan and are very interested to learn more. Videos about Japan are very popular. Look for "Rachel & June" on Youtube (includes Japanese subtitles).
