A dress is a one piece outfit, with a skirt part of any length.
A Gown is typically a kind of dress that is made luxurious expensive materials with a very long skirt to it.
The exception to this is a "dressing gown" which is worn over nightwear, doesn't have to be luxurious and opens all the way down the front and has a belt to tie it with, but is still typically long.

All gowns are dresses but not all dresses are gowns 😁 for example a sundress us never a sungown. Dress refers to both male and female attire in some sentences ie 'are you getting dressed?' Or a dressing room

Both answers above are good. Generally a gown is a long skirted dress that fits a formal occasion, such as a ball. A wedding dress could be classed as a gown.

A dressing gown is a kind of clothing that can be worn by men or women [but usually with different styles]. There are other gowns that men can wear too.
