There have been complaints that the product breaks easily.

Does the above sentence make sense?
I'm not sure if I should use "There has been a complaint that..." or "There have been complaints that..."

There have been many such complaints, not only one. However, all the complaints are about breaking easily (i.e., the contents of the "that-clause" is the same. In this case, which is correct? Please tell me a natural way to say it.

(Who made the complaints is probably "the users of the product", but it doesn't appear in the original Japanese, so I don't want to use it.

"There have been complaints that the product becomes damaged easily." "There have been complaints that the product breaks easily." Use (damage) if certain parts of the product fall off, or stop working. Use "break" if it becomes a useless product. So an example of this would be an iPhone with a non-working power button, which is still useable VS an iPhone with a screen that renders it useless.

The original is "当該製品には容易に破損するというクレームがある", but I'm waiting for replies from native speakers of English.

No offense meant, but I'm still waiting for replies from native speakers.
I believe that this website is where native speakers answer the questions from learners, as the name "HiNative" suggests.

Is it referring to one type of product or several? We first have to understand whether to translate it in the singular or plural forms.

Also there needs to be a verb equivalent to the Japanese form. I can think of damage and break so my next question is whether this is a very formal structure or and informal one.

In English we usually prefer to use the active form or we identify the subject.

So how many complaints are there? If it's by more than one customer than we can use the plural form of complaint

I don't know the exact number, but there have been many. They are made by more than one customer.

I know we should use "There are" to mean plural, but in this case, it's followed by a that-clause. So I wanted to make sure about it.

I think generally you can use either verb because both convey an issue with the product, which must be addressed. However, a broken product would seem a more serious issue than damage to a product. Both are not what consumers want at all of course.
