@xdhhdeyj So in Korea they'd turn 19 on new year's or until July of 2018, sorry this topic has always been so confusing to me.

@nami97 No. The turning of age happens on New's Year. So you would turn 18 on New's Year and later on your birthday you would still be 18. Then, on New's Year again you would turn 19. That is how you calculate your Korean age: if you already had a birthday in the year, you only add a year. If you didn't, you add two (one for the belly time + one for new's year). If you already had a birthday, it means you counted one year for the year we are in (the new's year added year), so you just add the belly time year.

When babies are born, they are already 1yo(year old).
Then they "grow up" every 1st of January, not on their birthday. Basically, during their birthday, they get gifts but they don't grow older.
*These are the differences between Korean age and Western age:*
- When you are born, you are already 1 in Korean age (0 in western age)
- In Korea, you age on the New Year (not on their birthday like westerners)
You can be 1 year older in Korean age, but also 2 years older.
*To calculate your Korean age, just use this:*
- When you've already had your birthday this year:
Korean age = Western age + 1
- When your birthday is later this year:
Korean age = Western age + 2
*Let me give you an example to make it a bit more clear:*
Emma is born on 24nd June 2017
(In Korea she is already 1, remember?)
Korean age: 1
Western age: 0
Difference: +1
It is New Year 🎆🎇
(In Korea everyone turns 1 year older. But westerners stay the same age)
Korean age: 2
Western age: 0
Difference: +2
It's Emma's birthday 🎂
24nd June 2018
(In Korea you don't age on your birthday. Westerners turn 1 year older)
Korean age: 2
Western age: 1
Difference: +1
Another ways to calculate korean age:
Current year - Your birth year (Subtract your birth year from the current.)
Your age + 1(Korean age) => Korean age

They'd turn 19 next year on new year's in Korea. You don't need to sorry.
