Domande Olandese

I wasn't allowed to ride the tram with my bike. Then a few minutes after, I saw a lady with bike got on the tram at a different location. Was I in a different universe?

What exactly do you mean? Do you want to know why that woman was allowed to get on the tram and you weren't?

maybe you got in the wrong carriage/spot, there are specific bike carriages/spots.

@MeggyM No. I want to know if people can bring their bikes into trams. Right now, the only explanation that makes sense to me is that I was in two parallel worlds in one of which the rule is you are allowed to bring your bike in and in another of which the rule is that you aren't.

On the tram in Utrecht, bikes are not allowed. I checked, and found the info at the bottom of this page: http://u-ov.info/onderweg/toegankelijkheid (site of bus and tram in Utrecht). It says that foldable bikes are allowed, if folded up. So maybe the lady you saw had a folded up bike. Or maybe the driver didn't notice she came in with a bike. Or she was his girlfriend. :-)

@petriko Amsterdam. I wasn't allowed to do so in Amsterdam centraal, tram 9 bound to Diemen. Then I saw the woman carrying in her bike at Amsterdam Rietlandpark, platform direction Muiderpoort.

@dutchie The both cases were about the same spot of the tram where, you know, in the middle of the whole tram, there's a booth at which you buy ticket and beside which there's a space for wheelchairs and baby carts.

@nike Oh, so the rules can vary in different cities. Well, that makes sense. though. About the lady with her bike, she gave up her first tram because, assumably, there was already a bike in that spot. I don't know if that was the reason but that's what I saw and concluded. So I saw a bike was on the tram. Her bike wan't the one that folds. The one that I saw was in the tram wasn't either.
