Not really any difference. They both mean to steal.
Pilfer would be to take things of little value.
"she pilfered a roll of toliet paper from my bathroom"
shoplifting is stealing without paying for something.
"she got caught shoplifting the new Coach purse from Dillards"
We dont use pilfer much. Most just say steal. But shoplifting is reserved for stealing from stores.

@manger What exactly are you looking for? Terms we dont really use? Or not common ones?

You said people don't use pilfer much. So I want to know if there're other some rare words in my picture. If yes, pick them out, then I'll pay fewer attentions on them.

Wow. Now thats a list!
I posed this question to a group of 10 people. I didn't want to give you words I thought. Or don't hear.

I want to break it down for you, instead of just cut and dry.
#6 (bigamy) #29 (hooliganism)#31 (inperfect)
Are not used.
#39 (pickpocket) #32 (jaywalking) - are not too common. These were terms largely used in the 1930-1970
picketpocketing is more commonly stated as mugging/stealing/theft
#35 (lynching) and (genocide) were largely common of long ago, but are common in other countries. Not so much in the US. These are still good terms to study. Just not top ones I would pick.
#16 (desertion) #47(treason)
are government/military terms. So if you are learning about military, these are good. If you are wanting common everyday people these would not be it.
