I have a few questions. Do American people usually use the check ? When do you use it? I think many people use credit cards these days.

Yes Americans use checks but I'm not for sure when. I'm only 13 but my dad signs checks to my school.

Some use it to pay their bills, like electricity, cable etc. the bill come by mail and the customer writes a check and sends it back to the company. They could also use checks for giving back money. For instance, if I buy 2 tickets to a show, my friend could pay me back using cash, or writing a check.

@yuritan: Yes, I noticed that cash is preferred in Japan. Quite interesting considering how technology advanced the country is in many other aspects. The Internet is not that great either, but then in US it is also worse than in Europe, for instance.

I prefer to pay everything with the credit card because I don't have to worry about carrying cash, and also I get points when I use the credit card. Sometimes, it would be cheaper if I used cash, for instance, when paying for gas.
