@Nrocinu18 quite oppressive, not made for improving in itself critical spirit, level is quite low and grows up suddenly very fast at the end of university..the system is also often compared to a mammuth since it is difficult to change it..the system is in the same time elitist and taking the pupils toward low level..the "elites" are those usually socially advantaged..social lift works perhaps less since few decades..

could definitly be improved for sure. The education system is really old, I guess it didn't changed much sinced WW2 (apart from the programm of course)
From my own experience (I'm 17 years old) :
Primary school : very little pedagogy, the teacher often have crowded class (around 30-42 pupils) and spend more time calming the children than teaching
Middle School : The classes are less crowded, students in difficulty are helped in tutoring which is really great, but also there can be a lot a violence and bullying with some difficult children
High School : It's ok, I guess. Depends a lot of the teacher you end up with. At least we can chose the subject we want to study for the first time. But we are totally on our own with almost no help if you have low grades, which can be problematic if you have a totally absent teacher (I had a spanish teacher who only showed up twice in a year)
SPECIAL MENTION for language subjects. Some teachers can be really cool and interactive but MOST OF THEM only teach language with paper test, which is dumb ! It's learning a language, we should be talking much more
To conclude I would say it really depends on the establisment you are in. If you are rich, you can go into private school, with "better" teachers and less problematic children who disturb the class, but very little diversity (a lot of daddy's boy) I've never been into private school because they often are catholic lessons which you are forced to attend to even if you are not a catholic. In the opposite you have "ZEP" schools (zones d'éducation prioritaires) with a lot of bullying, drugs, etc... I suggest you get information about the establisment you want to go to before getting involved.
Nothing to be really proud of ! But still, like anywhere else, if you work hard you'll succeed, even if the education system isn't that great
(sorry about the mistakes I'm typing on my phone ! I hope it's comprehensive, and that it helped :) )
