If you're talking about the go card for public transport, then unfortunately soon it might be your only option. Paper tickets have been phased out in other states and now the electronic transport card is the only option.
Some benefits of a card is that you can use it for all transport methods, so you don't need to buy different tickets. You can also register it online so you can get your money back if you lose it, unlike a ticket. You can also get discounts using the card often, whereas paper tickets will always cost the same amount. You can also arrange for funds to be added automatically so that you don't have to worry about not having enough money to travel.
Public transport can be expensive, particularly if you are an adult or otherwise paying full fare. But it is definitely cheaper than uber!
Uber seems to be reasonably safe. I haven't heard any bad stories personally. As a one-off it might be cheaper than public transport. It's also more convenient, because you can go places transport can't. Ultimately if you will be travelling a lot I would recommend public transport where possible.
