"my friend" is "he" or "it"? Any text looks more naturally to me with "he": "I ask my friend to call me tomorrow, but he doesn't want to do it". But if my friend is a woman? She? But if my friend's gender is unknown by context? For example, in the case when I mean by the word "friend" any of my friends and it can be either gender. It? Then text "I ask my friend to call me tomorrow, but it doesn't want to do it" sounds odd to me.

Don't say it because you friend is not a thing. Even if the gender isn't in context, you know the gender of your friend so just have he or she in the sentence.

I wouldn't use it , just use he when the gender is unknown

You would not call your friend "it". He if male and she if female. If the gender is unclear you could say "they" but it's casual use and not considered correct in formal writing.

Don't say it because you friend is not a thing. Even if the gender isn't in context, you know the gender of your friend so just have he or she in the sentence.

But if you said "I asked my friends to call me" and you asked both male and female friends, then it is correct to say "but they don't want to do it."

When you don’t know the gender, you don’t have to specify, just say “they” or “them” (Example: I just met THEM, THEY became my friend) If you know the gender, then “he” or she” or “him” or “her”. Don’t say “it”, “it” is what you call certain things that are not human (Example: It was scary OR It was tiring)
