I think some people think this, but most people have accepted the fact that this isn't always the case.

I think that each
couple/family needs to decide for themselves how they structure their family (in terms of who works, etc.) and with each family, it will be different.

@ynk3 I firmly do not believe that.

I believe that once you marry someone, it's a partnership and the responsibilities should be shared. Not just for the sake of one's own survival as a family unit, but as an active demonstration of mutual love, respect, and commitment to their continued health and happiness together.
