No, "ai" will sound more like a "é" while "ais" will be more of a "è".

@Faitfrette I noticed that and I'm really confused. Just like déblai, the ai sounds è. How can I know how it sounds?

In general "ai" will sound like an "é". I don't know if there is a way to distinguish between if it's an "é" or an "è".

I see, I think it has more to do with our accent. when a word finishes in "ai", here atleast, it sounds like an "é". You can say "J'ai" like "jè", it still perfectly fine.
