Kimono is usually silk and more formal, and harder to wear than yukata. But there are many kinds - such as for weddings, for coming of age ceremonies, and for daily use (rare nowadays).
Yukata is made of light cotton, is informal, relatively easy to put on, and there are primarily two types:
1)Summer yukata to wear at summer festivals and fireworks displays.
2)indoor yukata worn as pajamas, or after taking a bath in the hot springs.
