Domanda in primo piano
- Inglese (Stati Uniti)
Un po' strano
First of all, very nice use of the words quantative and qualitative! It's obvious you have a profound grasp of English :) so I will be more detailed with my answer!
One thing I would change here is the word "direct." From what I gathered from your statement it seems you are trying to say you had a "hands on" experience with the research. For this reason, I would change direct into its adverbial form - "directly" - in order to describe how you engaged with this qualitative research:
"I was able to directly engage in qualitative research..."
However, if you mean to use "direct" as an adjective describing the "research," I would change the word to something that does a better job of evoking the idea of "hands on." Such as "firsthand” or “practical.”
“I was able to engage in (firsthand/practical) qualitative research...”

Thank you so much for your advice!
The sentence is connected to the previous one:
I held more than thirty interviews with refugees and staff working for organizations including UNHCR. I was able to engage in direct qualitative research that complemented the published quantitative research I drew from.
How can I improve the sentence/sentences? As you told me, should I change "direct" to "directly"?

You can do either or even both!
"I was able to directly engage in firsthand qualitative research...”
(And knowing the context, the word "Practical" would probably not be a good word to use here)
