I saw a phrase "in the lap of the Gods" in my English text book.
I felt something is wrong because there can be many gods but they think there is only one God in most of the English-speaking countries. So I think Lower Case g has to be used instead of capital G.
What do you think as a native English speaker?

Well, I'm not native, but I agree with you. In portuguese, "Deus" is the way to refer to the christian god, and "deus" is a word for any kind of god. But I often see "Deuses" (plural) and I can say it's, in my opinion, very wrong.

Depends on the context, while is commonly agreed that G is only for one God, in a fictional setting could be understandable to use G in Gods.

@Vortex_ If there are lots of parallel worlds and each of them has God, I can say that there are many Gods. It's only case I can come up with. Could you give me some examples other than that?
