At two o'clock on January 19, Captain Nemo asked Dr. Aronnax for help, as one of his men was ill, but unfortunately the doctor could not do anything for the man who later died. The next day, the captain invited the Doctor and his friends to accompany him to the funeral of the deceased. Shortly after, they traveled to the Indian Ocean where Ned planned to flee with Aronnax, but the doctor denied it, since he wanted to escape to Europe. On February 8, they arrived in Sri Lanka where Nemo invites Aronnax to visit the famous island of oyster fishing, arriving there, Dr. Aronnax sees a pearl fisherman being attacked by a shark and soon after sees Captain Nemo with his knife, and Ned, with his harpoon, fighting the animal to help the fisherman, who managed to be saved. After that, on February 18, they traveled to the coast of Africa, the Mediterranean Sea and the coast of Egypt and the Atlantic, bound for the coast of Portugal.
