Hindi is the most common.
India has 23 official languages but the central government only uses Hindi and English as its official language. The state governments have their own regional languages. Hindi is spoken in most northern states so around 54% of Indians speak Hindi. (including the people who speak it as their second language). The second most spoken is Bengali and then telugu.

@ArpitaSingh That was very insightful so thank you. I live in British Columbia and there is a big Indian population here so I'm always curious about the culture and country thinking of maybe learning Hindi

@watchyourself You're welcome! I guess most Indians living in British Columbia are Punjabis so you must have heard Punjabi the most. However,they can understand Hindi too. And Indeed, it's a beautiful language, good luck learning Hindi^^
