Both are used for introduce yourself. «はじめまして» (hajimemashite) is like «nice to meet you». «よろしくおねがいします» (yoroshiku onegaishimasu) is a typical japanese' greeting, it is pretty hard to translate.

hajinemashite : when you meet someone for the first time, you say
yoroshiku : when you ask something to the people, you say
Or when you want to get along with someone , you say
Onegaishimasu:the same as yoroshiku. In addition, "yoroshikuonegaishimasu" In this way if you use it collectively ,it will be a more polite sentence

@johnydazzles from my understanding YOROSHIKU is something you say after the introduction. for example a new student introducing themselves to the class then speaking to someone individually saying YOROSHIKU.
YOROSHIKU onegaishimasu = pleased to meet you
HAJIMEMASHITE = is before an introduction when the person is unknown
I'm shit at explaining but hope it helps

I've been studying Japanese for some time, and for what I have seen, the common translations for both はじめまして and よろしくお願いします present in textbooks and reference materials are pragmatic approximations at best.
Neither means "nice to meet you", but they are loose equivalents. Going straight to the point:
はじめまして comes from the verb 始める (to begin), and it means something in the lines of "let's begin [our introduction / our acquaintance / our relation]" So, it always comes as an OPENING for introductions to people you are meeting for the very first time.
よろしくお願いします, on the other hand, is much more complex. Literally, it means something like "I beg for good things between us", "I beg you to be good to me", or even "I wish for good things to come", and it is used for many situations where you are expressing respect and gratitude at the CLOSING of some interaction (not only introductions). Think of it as a very formal and ceremonious way of saying "best regards" or "I wish you well".
