Hi, I'm confused how to use "yet" correctly. As I know, "yet" has 2 functions as a conjunction and adverb. And, yet should be used in negative and question form. But, how about usage yet in this context : " ......, although the exact biosynthetic mechanism has yet to be established.", what does "yet" mean? Please help me to explain this problem.

'Yet' in that context means there are still things to be done...
I'll give you another example.
Husband - Are you ready yet [are you done] [did you finish preparing]
Wife - No, not yet - five more minutes - didn't finish my makeup...

In the phrase "although the exact biosynthetic mechanism has yet to be established", "yet" is an adverb. Here is another example.
We have yet to decide what action to take (= We have not decided what action to take).
