No it is not derogatory. However, some women may not like it. Think of it as a very informal way to say girl or woman.

@miiiqzz It mostly depends on how you say it, but I think it usually is a tiny bit derogatory. I could be wrong, but I feel like it wouldn't really be normal to use it in a positive way, for example, I don't really think it would be normal to say something like,
"I met this really sweet chick earlier, she stopped and helped me pick up all the books I dropped."
I suppose it sounds alright, but to me, it sounds strange to have referred to her as a "chick".
But I think it would be natural to say something like "Oh my gosh some chick cut me off in traffic earlier!"
But, it's not always meant to be derogatory, sometimes it is just another word for "girl", like for example, if someone says "Did you see that chick that was standing in line earlier? I think she was checking me out!"
I'm sorry I can't explain it better, but I hope this was helpful!😁

It's not necessarily derogatory, but some women don't like it all the same. It all depends on how it's used and who you're saying to. There are some terms, like "chick flick" or "chick movie" or "chick's car" that don't bother anyone, in fact, chicks use it as well, probably to mock men. Women will warn men that a movie is a "chick flick/movie" meaning that it's very romantic (maybe too romantic for a guy to handle, like "the Notebook")
