[Female of Reporter & Narrator]
A small gathering on a hot Okinawa
summer afternoon
all in an effort to promote reading
Japanese children and
their parents came to the Urasoe city
library for story time with an American
twist.
[Female A of librarian]
What we did is a regular preschool
storytime like we do at the foster
library and they wanted an American
storytime so the story is that we picked
today we're basically stories about
summer in America.
[Female of Reporter & Narrator]
The event symbolized
a continued friendship.
[Female B of librarian]
We are learning from each other and it's
really really a nice way to connect with
our community here.
[Female of Reporter & Narrator]
The theme of American summer
brought a taste of August in the States
to the kids right here in Okinawa
[Female A of librarian]
It's just a really exciting cultural
exchange every time that our library
staff comes here we get to meet with
the the Japanese library staff so we get
to share tips and tricks of the trade.
[Female of Reporter & Narrator]
it's the third time the Foster library has
made a visit to the kids in Urasoe.
[Female B of librarian]
Sometimes we can feel a little separate
on base it still kind of feels like
America so when you come here you really
get a sense of of the culture of Okinawa
which is so important.
[Female of Reporter & Narrator]
there are plans to reverse
the efforts in half camp foster
hosts Japanese storytime to find out
more about Okinawa or MCCS events visit
