It can be used to describe something that has not happened but probably will.
“I haven’t gotten the letter yet.”
“I’ve been digging for weeks, but I haven’t hit the bottom yet.”
“Yet” can also be used like the word “however”. Like:
“I searched for hours, yet I could’t find it.”
