I did that is correct. The first one is unnatural

"I was do that" is grammatically incorrect, you would say "I was doing that. "

I was to do that means you were going to do that, While I did means you already did the action

Actually you should say: "I was doing that" and it means that you used to do something for a long or a short time continously then you stopped
and "I did that" means that you did something and finished immediately or it didn't take so long time with you
