What's your thought on Men's Japanese Fashion in general?
Do we need to let you guys know what we are up to more than we get to know your scene?

I wouldn't say I'm completely clued in to fashion culture, but I'm not oblivious to it, either. I'd have to say that here in the U.S., I don't really hear about what's popular in Japan, either for women or men. I don't see it in magazines or on popular culture shows. I'd say if the Japanese fashion industry wants to make styles and brands more well-known, then yes, those industries should reach out more to other countries.

Yes, I'd like to know more about men's fashion in Japan. We do not hear much about that topic in our media.

You guys have way cooler jackets than we do, at least I think so. Fashion is pretty stale here.

I am American and lived in Japan, and I love Japanese men's fashion. But I think some (many?) American men would feel Japanese fashion is a little "fussy" (too perfect). Many American men don't care about fashion. If a shirt is clean, they wear it. If the shirt is stylish or not stylish, they don't really care.

Many thanks for those answers! Much appreciated!
Me and my buddy have been working in Japanese fashion industries for quite a while as well as have lived in U.S working as a fashion insiders.
seems to us that a lot of american dudes are interested in Japanese men's fashion just because they are in the same industries as we are? People around us would love to know what the scene like....

Those are the stylish men. ;) They do exist! But I'm thinking of all of the average men I have known in my life. Do you know the old song "Sharp Dressed Man" by ZZ Top? You should go find it on YouTube. They sing about how "every girl crazy about a sharp-dressed man". That's because there are so few sharp-dressed men in America. ;)

I see. definition of sharp-dressed men? modern, swag-ish, sassy, cheesy but classy, culture-led look? Hipstars are those categories, too? so confused.
first time that I heard that song tho! thanks!

"Sharp-dressed man" = a man wearing expensive, usually conservative, stylish clothing, sort of like the old James Bond.
Hipsters are never sharp dressed men. "Hipster" used to mean (basically!) someone who liked to wear trendy secondhand clothes and act pretentious, but now "hipster" seems like it's just a word for "young or annoying people who wear or do things other people don't like". ;) It doesn't have a set meaning anymore. There is no one hipster style
In the ZZ Top song, they make a joke with the exact clothes they name (top hat, white gloves etc.). It's a joke because those are too old-fashioned and formal, but the chorus "They (girls) come running just as fast as they can (to date me), 'cause every girl crazy about a sharp dressed man." is absolutely true. :D

Those dudes are obviously sharp-dress men!! They have nothing to do with hipsterdom at all! I kind of get the definition of hipster tho thanks! It seems to me that Hipsters are those who imitate and pretend cultural capital? or history-oriented something? or other cultures that not theirs as if they are theirs such as weird(but awesome) beard, plaid shirts and listen to indie folk songs (little stereotypical I know) but also they stylized themselves as sharp and cool from my perspective.. They are looking great! So hipsters are considered to have a negative aspect more than positive aspect...interesting.
I see! what exactly that song imply tho? just because they are sharp that does not really mean every girls are crazy about chasing them even though it's a joke... I see those sharp-dressed man as famous figures.. I recognized some of them.

Foreign fashions in general aren't ever really touched upon unless you're really into that kind f thing. And if you are interested, you really have to be prepared to do some digging sometimes.
Personally, while I like Japanese fashion for both men and women, I don't think it'd do too well over in the US. People are too focused on showing off their bodies and trying to look "cool" to really care about actual fashion sense. Besides, most guys I know go around in basketball shorts anyway, so maybe it'd do well in some places, but you'd be hard-pressed to get the Midwest to try it. They're a tough crowd.

sorry for the belated reply...
I see..as far as I know from my experience being in NYC for four years surrounded by people from fashion industries, I heard a lot of good comments on Japanese fashion in general.
I also get the ideas about dudes in states, too.
assuming if people from midwest are into foreign fashion, then they will accept our way of style, correct? since I think we receive every inch of american culture so much that I'm getting a little bit annoyed even though I'm still a huge fan of Americana and western culture...

I think for people who follow and enjoy fashion, Japanese style would be welcome anywhere in the U.S. As for the Midwest... I suppose you might think of it like this: The difference between urban areas with big cites like New York might compare to rural areas in the Midwest in the same way that urban areas like Tokyo would compare to remote areas like Hokkaido. Although they are parts of the same country, the way of life and fashion are very different. People in the American Midwest are very conservative. Most people I see wear jeans and T-shirts as dress fashion. Business people wear plain suits and ties or khaki pants. Not really much diversity.

I see... Well I suppose more and more young generations are getting into fashion in general regardless of genre still out there in Midwest have less consciousness with fashion..
