Take part in: To be involved in an activity, sport, event, etc with other people
Join in: To START taking part in something that other people are ALREADY doing
She never takes part in any of the class activities.

Being involved means being a part of something or associated with it. If you volunteer on a team to clean up the playground, you're involved in making it a safer and more fun place for kids to play. Can explain it in another way .let a native speak!
