(1) Informal you ---> tú
-- What's your name?
-- ¿Cuál es tu nombre? (nombre de ti)
(2) Formal/polite you --> usted
-- What's your name?
-- ¿Cuál es su nombre? (nombre de usted)
(3) Normal he/she/they ---> él / ella / ellos
-- What's his/her/their name?
-- ¿Cuál es su nombre? (nombre de él/ella/ellos)
2 and 3 are different on the context.

"¿cual es SU nombre?" is more rude and formal than "¿cual es TU nombre?". You can use the second one with friends or young people

SU is formal is right so that's all... "rude" was a mistake i think... TU is better when you talk a child or a friend...

@nirel_christz27 The thing is that using "su" as a form of "usted" with people who you don't know that are adults, not young people, you could make them feel upset because they feel that you are calling them old. Anyway, when adults feel uncomfortable with "su" they let you know if they want you to talk to them with "tú" in a informal way.
I hope that makes sense...
